2021-07-31: New product launch - Procalcitonin FS

Procalcitonin is a 116 amino acid protein, the prohormone of calcitonin. Normally secreted in thyroid C Cells. Procalcitonin is ubiquitously and uniformly expressed in multiple tissues throughout the body in response to sepsis. In healthy conditions, the PCT levels in circulation are very low (< 0.05 ng/mL). In patients with bacterial sepsis, suspected or confirmed lower respiratory tract infections, including community-acquired pneumonia, acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of COPD, PCT can be a useful decision-making tool for antibiotic therapy (Schuetz et al. 2018).

In addition, early evidence suggests that Procalcitonin may also be a valuable tool in identifying COVID-19 patients who may be at risk for bacterial co-infection. DiaSys Diagnostics India Pvt.Ltd. have launched the new reagent Procalcitonin FS in SYS system kit range. The new DiaSys reagent Procalcitonin FS is a fluid-stable, particle enhanced immunoturbidimetry assay, providing a convenient workflow on clinical chemistry analysers. Within the measuring range from 0.2 ng/mL to 50 ng/mL, the determination of PCT in serum and plasma samples can be performed with high precision at the clinical cut-off levels for sepsis.

The assay performance is complemented by high tolerance to endogenous interferents and common therapeutics used in sepsis management. Furthermore, Procalcitonin FS has overall performance, comparable to established methods plus an outstanding on board and calibration stability. Currently, DiaSys offers Procalcitonin in the SYS system Kit that fits a wide range of analysers. Besides, DiaSys supplies dedicated calibrators and controls to utilize the full potential of their assays. Assigned Kit lines for use on respons® will follow to complete the DiaSys Systems as well.
